The DU does not have any access to customer communications as it may be deployed in unsupervised sites. 先ほどの図を見てのとおり、Option3以外の構成ではすべて5GCが必要となりますが、5GCはEPCとは全く異なる新しいアーキテクチャとなり、この為各インフラベンダーは5GCの開発に時間を要しています。従って、5Gの早期開始には既存の4G EPCを利用するネットワークが適しており、その結果Option3の構成が採用されています。現在はコンサルタントとして企業や自治体向けに5G、ローカル5G、MECといった新技術やグローバル含めたモバイルマーケットの動向というアジェンダで勉強会やスポットコンサルを提供しており、また、執筆活動も行っております。5GCによる新たな機能やメリットとしてはQoSの拡張などその他にも多々あり、これらのメリットおよび5GCの性能を最大限引き出す為に各通信事業者は早期のOption2の展開を目指しています。例えば超低遅延が必要となるデバイスに対しては、超低遅延を実現する専用のネットワークに接続させ、センサー等のIoT系のデバイスで通信量が小さく頻度が低いデバイスに関してはIoT専用のネットワークに接続したりすることが可能となるのです。余談ですが、議論の対象外となってしまったOption6の構成は、NRと4G EPCが接続される構成であり、Option8は4G LTEとNRがともに4G EPCに接続される構成でした。いずれも4GEPCに接続される構成であり、この構成を採用した場合、将来においても古い4G EPC構成を利用し続ける必要があり、かつ4G LTEは古いアーキテクチャであるため5G関連の新機能すべてを実現することが難しくなります。Option2への移行を目指す理由は多々ありますが、理由の一つとして古い4Gのネットワークアーキテクチャを将来にわたって利用し続けたくないということがあげられます。Option3では、5Gの通信は4G LTE経由となるため、通信速度や遅延は5G NRだけではなく4G LTEやEPCにも依存します。4Gのシステムはかなり以前から開発されたものであり5Gの特性をすべて実現することは難しく、その結果通信速度への影響や遅延への影響が出てしまいます。5GはOption3で既に提供が開始されていますが、ほとんどの通信事業者はStandalone(SA)構成のOpeino2への移行を目指しています。Option3でサービスが提供されているにもかかわらずOption2を目指す理由はどこにあるのでしょうか？一方NRや5GCは5G用に開発されたシステムである為、5Gの大容量通信および低遅延に対応したシステムです。従って、これら5Gの特徴を活かしたサービスを提供するためにはOption2のようにStandalone(SA)構成のネットワークが必要になるのです。5Gではこれまでとは異なりスマホ以外のデバイスが多数接続されます。これらのデバイスは用途やサービスによって特徴が異なる為、それぞれの特徴を実現するためのネットワークが必要となります。ネットワークスライス技術を利用することでネットワークを仮想的に分離し、サービスやデバイスに合わせたネットワークを構築することが可能となります。携帯電話が普及し始めた1990年代後半からモバイル通信業界に携わり、通信事業者、インフラベンダーにて約20年間にわたって通信インフラの変遷を見てきました。ネットワークスライスという技術は新しいものではなく4Gネットワークでも実現は可能ですが、4Gネットワークでは利用可能なスライスの数に制限があり、あまり使い勝手がよくありませんでした。5Gではあらかじめ3GPP標準にスライスに関する規定が盛り込まれている為、多数のスライスネットワークを提供することが可能となっています。図2に示したとおり5GCは4G EPCとは全く異なるアーキテクチャになっています。5GCを導入することでどのようなメリットがあるのでしょうか？
