Would come down to pricing for me.The 9700k already has a pretty big advantage for gaming, and it's going to take Ryzen a while to close the gap let alone pull ahead and even then it'll only be in newer games from studios that actually bother to multithread optimize past 8 cores.
I have a 3700x right now and I usually just turn SMT off because it actually hurts performance in a lot of situations.
Both the 3700X and 9700k are 8-core CPU’s.
Games become more and more multithreaded in nature, so it looks like future gaming is in AMD's favor.

I wouldn't worry about threads if you are just gaming. I do know that Intel has like a 5-10% lead in some games at 1080p, but the gap decreases at 1440p and 4k.Zen 2 will be on both new-gen Xbox and PS5. 3700x is more well rounded in my opinion, 9700k lacks of hyperthreading which doesn't help for the streaming. Consider of course the total cost of the platform, x570s are expensive as can be the fast ram ryzen loves.
The Intel Core i7-9700K is slightly faster in gaming workloads, but the deltas are too small to make them noteworthy.
Most games really hate Ryzen's smt for whatever reason, I think they try to use 2 logical threads in situations where they could just use 2 cores instead and it slows it down.

Im going with a graphics around the set of 5700 xt or 2060 super. i7-9700k + 3200 RAM vs Ryzen 7 3700x + 3600 RAM. I apologize if this question has been asked to death. Comparing the 3700X to Intel’s i7-9700K shows that, when overclocked, the 3700X is 26% faster at 64-core computations but 13% slower for gaming and desktop (sub eight core performance). Rendering, video encoding, compression, and encryption can generally use as many threads as you can throw at them. The increase in multi core speed the extra 8 threads bring to the table is no slouch and will allow you to finish tasks considerably faster than the i7 9700K.
Both are great processors. It may be worth going AMD if you can get the parts for less than the 9700k and you can get a much better GPU in your budget which is important for 1440p. I7 9700k vs. Ryzen 7 3700x. if you plan on playing at 2560x1440 or above it doesn't really matter which of the cpus for now, gpu will be your bottleneck. Im debating in between these two and would do gaming and light photo editing and very rare video editing (Almost never). but it will eventually happen.I purchased a case, and 2tb of HDD (I plan to buy SSD m.2 as well)Thanks to anyone who has anything to say on the matter. Build Help. Work-wise, you really can’t go wrong with the Ryzen 7 3700X when considering it against the i7 9700K. In terms of pricing they will be roughly the same as the X470 motherboard I'd be getting is more expensive than the Z390 motherboard I'd be getting (X470 Crosshair VII and Z390 Aorus Elite respectfully).
