On any hot summer day at Butcher Jones Beach, it is tricky to manage your way between a thousand people, loose dogs, coolers and barbecues, if you want to reach the cool water. if you don’t go basically at the crack of dawn don’t go at all cause then you’ll basically walking through the desert. No entry at all until further notice.Looove this trail especially in the fall, winter, and spring!This is one of my favorite hikes close to Phoenix. By dredging sand from what is now the State Boat Channel, Moses raised the elevation of the barrier islands by fourteen feet, connecting several small islands into one long stretch topped by Ocean Parkway. Portions were large.The food is good here, but the strawberry shortcake is the best in the country! It’s not worth it do not go for the trail save your money and enjoy the lake insteadAmazing trail!

The restaurant had fabulous food at reasonable prices. The kids and the husband enjoyed it and it was nice to be out in nature. Nearby is the fully accessible Peregrine Point Fishing Dock. The trail has great views of Saguaro Lake.Beautiful hike along the coastline of the lake. Dog friendly, kid friendly— just watch out for the trail edges as they have quite a bit of cacti to accidentally step on!Great trail, go early as it can get crowded.
Butcher Jones Trail [CLOSED] is a 4.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Tortilla Flat, Arizona that features a lake and is rated as moderate. My family literally had to coax me out of the car as I was laughing hysterically at the situation because I was thinking "this is my absolute worst nightmare". Very beautiful views.I loved this hike. Plenty of picnic tables and bbqs with nice shaded areas to eat (if you don't mind chasing the bugs away every 10 seconds). Trail is any easy walk with a slow up climb. Adjacent to picnic area is a gently sloping beach. There are no shade ramadas. It’s not worth it unless you like looking at beer cans, circle k cups and cactus for more then 2 miles cause the trail itself is actually 4. and be prepared to get pricked by at least a few plants because that’s how narrow it is. Not difficult. Go early for best experience.Road to trailhead is currently closedGreat place to hike in the morning. None the less, if I would have known I would have had to face my fears by walking into a swarm of biblical proportions, I may not have went.
