We never saw water :( and turned around when the sun got low, so we’ll just have to try againNot for smaller kids took 5 year old and she kept fallingI personally was not a fan of this track, due to the high frequency of loose rock, with fairly steep gradient. In addition, all the stops you see are my family and I waiting for off road vehicles to pass. A few other people we ran into, had difficulty as well. Phon D Sutton Loop is a 2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Fountain Hills, Arizona that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels.
Could be a wonderful trail if properly maintained!Loved this area. Did one mile in and decided to turn around since we wanted an easy hike this afternoon since we are doing over 6 miles tomorrowViews are gorgeous Wanted to go to the river to possibly see wild horses but never made it thereTurn off your ad blocker to see a map of this trailthere are tons of trails within this area. We had to check our tracker map frequently to stay on it, and even then had trouble!
The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching. Happy hiking, all! Maybe you will like this for the views, but I’ll stick with other trails. Check it often.
some parts you do need to walk side ways to not slip. When you get down by the water it’s like a different world due to the vegetation. I thought that I trusted my senses and knew better than the rest of the commenters (ya right) ... it’s definitely a confusing & unmarked trail with lots of misleading offshoots. We worked our way back through a dried up creek/Ravine. This area was so over grown it was difficult to find the path- I recorded it if you want to have a laugh. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.OHV road and wash. Great for arc.Nice trail that cuts through two mountains and a ravine.
Phon D Sutton Campground USFS in Mesa is rated 6.8 of 10 at Campground Reviews. I was glad to have brought along my walking sticks for stability. Still worth the hike!! I also wouldn’t say this trail is easy. There are alternate trails that are easier. I did not do the full loop, due to my half century knees telling me to turn back. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Most of the time, if it looks like you’re supposed to be on the trail and it’s well defined, that’s not the one you’re supposed to be following. The left half is fairly straightforward but there’s so many off trails not marked on AllTrails that it’s super confusing. That being said the second half is a really cool hike through the wash, climbing rocks and potential wildlife.Everyone else is right. The site is a picnic and river take-out point. If you’re into birds or rattle snakes you’ll find them down by the river. At the fork we went right and stayed on the most obvious path which wasn’t what all trails showed.
great hike to explore and many old mines ..The Tonto National Forest is shut down right now, so we parked in the gravel lot right at the entrance to the rec area. Also went for a swim and floated down the river (in April so it was very cold).Very pretty views of the valley, but the trail is very difficult to follow & we lost it several times. DEFINITELY keep this app open.
Def record your route. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. This trail was okay, it was hard to follow - if we hadn’t used the app to navigate we would’ve been going the wrong way for a while lol... We went when it rained the night before so the views with the clouds was nice. This trail was extremely steep and rocky in spots - loose gravel and rocks make for slippery hiking. Dogs loved it.Fun hike! Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Very different than other trails due to the river. We went off a few times, scrambled on rocks, went through washes etcI downloaded the map and still went off!
