world teachers' day 2020 victoria

World Teachers' Day is being celebrated in Australia on Friday 25 October. The day is a great opportunity for everyone to recognise and appreciate teachers and the important role they play in …

There are some many ways ES staff can be involved in their union and make a real positive change to their working environment, their school and our education system.ESP Day replaced National Support Staff Week as our annual celebration of ES staff. It is important that ES members are recognised all year round and sub-branches encourage their involvement and ensure their rights and issues are given due recognition. The AEU fought hard for ES staff in the latest Schools Agreement (VGSA2017), which has seen over seven thousand ES members translated from insecure work to ongoing employment. If teachers can promote the voices of children to be at the centre of decision making, students will be emotionally motivated and connected to their learning.

Think of the advantage you will have of being an Indigenous teacher, knowing your communities, your culture, your connection to students, and being an example of how powerful our languages, culture and identity can be for paving the pathway in the lifelong learning of others. If school leaders, universities and key stakeholders (such as AITSL) continue to invest in emerging bright sparks (pardon the pun) within our teaching community, the future of teaching will be bright. It’s important for teachers and the wider community to stop and reflect on individual and collaborative achievements. I also love that no two days are ever the same, you never quite know how ‘a day at the office’ is going to be when you arrive at school each morning.I love that teaching is about opening doors, making amazing things possible for children who may not have otherwise had the opportunity. The process starts with something the student knows, develops an understanding of why they should learn more, and provides a vision of what success will look like. Great teaching is not to direct, but to guide and encourage. As someone who has gone straight from college to university, then on to a school setting, I’ve seen a great deal of development take place in teaching since I was in primary school.

I’m really passionate about inclusion and creating welcoming and safe spaces and environments for all people. When education is provided to everyone, it’s a great reference point for sustaining the current social expectations and introducing new societal aspirations. I especially love the ‘AHA’ moments – when students have been working at a particular task and they finally get it. "Celebration of the Queen"]) is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday preceding May 25. As we continue to empower our teachers to achieve higher standards in teaching practice, we are ensuring all students receive an education tailored to successfully meet their needs and achieve a #brightfuture.Education teaches students so much about themselves, and gives them valuable skills in resilience that can help them through life's trials. If you can multitask and sometimes laugh at yourself, you will be fine.Early on I developed a passion for working with our children, and ensuring that language was never a barrier for achieving success.

I’m struck by how many major developments have occurred within the last 10 years, not least the launch of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers standards. Teachers in Cameroon on Tuesday, 5 October 2010 joined their peers worldwide to celebrate the 17th World Teachers Day. They are so excited to know what they know, and their smiles of achievement say it all.I always considered teaching, a careers test in Year 10 returned mainly teaching options as my most compatible jobs! Lastly, but probably most importantly, care - great teachers simply show they care. I think most people have a story about a teacher from their own childhood that they still remember, and I still pinch myself that every day I am in a position to impact a person’s life. The relationships that I build with children, families and communities is the most rewarding part of my job. When I decided I wasn’t suited to a desk job and wanted to work with young people in a qualified career, teaching seemed the logical choice. My interest in teaching stems from when I was in year 10, when I had an English teacher who showed me that English could be a really emotive subject where you can put your heart on a piece of paper.

Strong education that combines best practice and innovation should be responsive and equitable for every student.Since I graduated, my career has taken me around Australia and the world. That turned from ‘until I’ve finished my degree’, to ‘until after my first year of teaching’, to ‘until I get my HALT accreditation’. I think it's awesome that it provides graduate teachers with lots of advice and resources to ground them in the craziness of the first year out from university.Great teachers have strong relationships with their students, make them feel accepted, and provide a safe learning environment. They know what they are doing and are always there to help, if they can. Having a dynamic workplace where you are met with challenges every day is really appealing to me.I’m really excited to be joining the profession at a time when it is undergoing transformative change.
